About user account on the Host PC
- User account must be prepared on the host PC, for the access from client PC. This user account must has valid password. Please do not fail to set valid, non-empty password.
Without valid password, user may not able to access shared files.
- In the DataShare Client settings window, you need to set same user name as in the DataShare Host setting window. If different user name is used, access error will be happen.
The allowable user name is one of the login user account name, that is shown by "Control panel → User accounts"
Network configuration
- LAN connection (local area network)
Host PC and Client PC should be connected to the same router's LAN ports.
Host PC and Client PC should have different and unique computer names. All computer name should be unique in the LAN.
If network connection is not established using computer name, it is worth to try to use IP address.
- Wireless LAN
When you use WLAN and wired lan, please assure that WLAN to LAN bridge mode is enabled. It is often the case that wireless lan device and wired lan device are separated by router. To connect them you need to setup the WLAN router. Please review the manual of the WLAN router or access point
- Using multiple network interfaces
Windows 7 OS define four types of network locations. If plual network interfaces is used on the PC, you must use same type of network location for all network interfaces. Otherwise DataShare may not work. For example if your wired LAN adapter is set up as public network, then other network adatpters including wireless LAN adapter should be also public network. If they use different kinds of network locations, connection from client PC to the host PC may fail.
- When the HomeGroup is active
'HomeGroup' and 'DataShare' could be inconsistent. When 'HomeGroup' is active and you want to use DataShare, you need to leave HomeGroup then start DataShare. You can leave HomeGroup by following step.
You can disconnect Home Network by following step.
- Login as administrative user.
- Open “Control Panel”,then change “View by:” settings to “Category”.
- Click “Choose homegroup and sharing options”
- Click the [Leave the homegroup...] link in the [Change homegroup settings] window.
- Click the [Leave the homegroup] iteml in the [Leave the Homegroup] window.
- Login as administrative user.
- Pulic folder sharing
When the default share folder could not be accessed from client PC, please check the settings of “Public folder sharing”.
- Open “Control Panel”,then change “View by:” settings to “Small icons”.
- Click “Network and Sharing Center ”.
- Click “Change advanced sharing settings”.
- If you use windows 8, select “All Networks”. If you use windows 7, select “Home or work”.
- Find [Public folder sharing] and check the setting.
- If [Turn off Public folder sharing...] is set, change the setting to enable [Turn on sharing so anyone with...];, then click [Save Changes];.
Notice on using security software
If you use security software, security function such as "block unauthorized access from other computers" often distarbs to access shared files.
So we need to set the security software so that it allows the folder sharing function to access over lan.
